Colin visited us with a very clear vision of what he wanted to get his perfect life on the water. This vision involved a full Victron LifePo4, 1KW Semi flexible solar panels, engine upgrades, alexa smart home system, CCTV, alarm system and many many more.
This proved to be a great project for everybody in the Swan Boats team, yet a very challenging one at the same time. We finalised the specification with Colin, then a very exciting e-mail arrived . Channel 4 wanted to feature our Narrowboat on a newly aired show My Floating Homes.
Next was to send our whole team for hair, make up and elocution lessons for our fantastic liverpool accents. The filming process from start to finish was an amazing experience for the team and Colin too, in typical TV fashion we did have some hiccups along the way with a global pandemic getting in the way. Hollywood has alot to answer for…
With our favoured reverse layout, Colin opted for 12V full size fridge and freezers for all the daily essentials, walking past these into the galley a gas powered slim line hob and sparkle quartz worktops throughout. A breakfast bar alongside two internally glazed and doors then led into the very bright and spacious lounge area to house a Sofa Bed Barn couch. To keep cosy and warm in the winter we fitted a Refleks diesel fired stove with a full quartz hearth and surround. A must for any boat, a lot less mess and boy do they heat up quickly.
Our usual full size quadrant shower, porcelain cassette toilet, designer large wash basin and a bespoke hand built mirror can be found in the bathroom with shower panels to compliment the quartz worktops.
Into the bedroom we built a Divan bed with a pull out for a full 4 foot 6 double, extra usb points for device charging, 12 volt TV, storage in every spare part of space with over head cupboards, under bed storage, even shoe storage under the front step. We built a wardrobe with a photo cell and internal light to add to the quality touch throughout the boat and for sheer convenience. We love LED’s!
Onto the vast electrical installation, we installed a 480AH Victron LifePo4 leisure battery bank. This coupled to the relevant victron charge controllers, Victron VX touch 50 to monitor real time data. A victron cerbo GX integrated every part of out installation together. 1KW Semi flexible solar panels can be found on the roof, again our choice was a victron smart solar controller this gives Bluetooth connectivity for the customer. This gives real time data and also a 30 day history history of the solar system.
With all this power to use and a lot of expensive equipment in our electric cupboard, we needed to make sure the boat was safe and secure. AOK Digital and Security Solutions came along and built us a custom system to meet all of Colins needs, with shock sensors, PIR sensors, accelerometer, with our custom Swan Boats touch screen panel. Coupled to a CCTV system, all this is easily accessible through a smart phone app.
If this boat wasn’t smart enough… Colin also decided he wanted some smart lighting control on the boat. This can be controlled through Amazon alexa and also a Sonoff system too remotely or again from a smartphone app.
With all the new tech on this boat we created the perfect no compromise package for a modern day live aboard. We made every effort to meet all of Colin’s needs, the outcome is a truly special Narrowboat as with every other build we are overwhelmed to put the Swan logo on the cabin side and see another great addition to our every growing family.
We wish Colin all the best in his journey on the water, all the guys have been overwhelmed working with him along this journey. He pushed our technical skill to the limits and entrusted our skill and experience to bring his dream to life. A great friend gained, a great boat on the water and a great laugh along the way. Perfection!
