Swan No. 9 is a 58’ semi-trad narrowboat, owned by Mike and Ulrike. Their vision for the perfect narrowboat incorporated a good hint of yellow!

The 8’ deck provides ample seating, and there’s a removable table for alfresco dining. The galley has a full-size 12v fridge and freezer, a four-ring gas hob, and a very sparkly quartz worktop. There’s more sparkly quartz in the bathroom, where there’s enough room for a quadrant shower, a Thetford cassette toilet, a full-size handbasin, and plenty of storage for towels and all the other essentials.

The pullman dinette in the lounge can be converted to a double bed. A smart TV is connected to the on-board WiFi system. A Morso Squirrel stove complements the Eberspächer diesel-fired heating system. In the bedroom is an ottoman-style bed that pulls out to make a standard double. Again, there’s plenty of storage here as no space is wasted.

The best choice for propulsion is the Beta Marine 43, a firm favourite with the team at Swan, and the standard for a boat of this size. Mike specified a 3kW Victron combi, four deep-cycle leisure batteries, and 500W semi-flexible solar panels with a Victron smart MPPT controller.

The exterior is painted in a very pleasing grey and yellow combination with white details. The black powder-coated windows are made by Caldwell’s. LED lights on the stern and bow add a modern twist to a traditional look.
