Colin had a very clear vision of what he wanted to make his dream of the perfect life on the water a reality: lithium batteries, solar panels, an engine upgrade, smart controls - and much more. This proved to be a great project for the entire Swan team, but it was also a challenging one. As soon as Swan finalised the specification, a very exciting email arrived: Channel 4 wanted to feature one of their narrowboats on My Floating Home - so their priority was to send the whole team for elocution lessons for their fantastic Liverpool accents! Then they’d need to bring the stylists in for hair and make-up! From start to finish, the filming process was an amazing experience for the team and for Colin too. There were some hiccups along the way - with a global pandemic getting in the way!

Colin chose Swan’s favoured reverse layout. The galley features a 12V full-size fridge and freezer, a slim-line gas hob, and a sparkly quartz worktop that doubles as a breakfast bar. The bright and spacious lounge area houses a comfy couch from the Sofa Bed Barn. To keep the boat cosy in winter, Swan fitted a Refleks diesel stove, set in a quartz hearth and surround.

In the walk-through bathroom is a full-size quadrant shower (with panels to complement the quartz worktops), a porcelain cassette toilet, a designer wash basin, and a bespoke handmade mirror.

In the bedroom, the divan bed has a pull-out to turn it into a standard double. There are USB points for charging, and a 12V TV. You’ll find plenty of storage in overhead cupboards, beneath the bed, and even under the front step. The wardrobe contains LED lighting for that touch of quality and convenience.

Power comes from a Victron 480Ah LiFePO4 leisure battery bank with 1kW of semi-flexible solar panels. The system is monitored by  the Victron Cerbo GX, accessed by the GX Touch 50 display. The Victron SmartSolar controller provides Bluetooth connectivity, giving real-time data and a 30-day history of the solar system. If you’d like to know more about this system, Victron have produced a short video.

A security system - comprising shock sensors, PIR sensors, an accelerometer, and Swan’s custom touchscreen panel, coupled with a CCTV system - was fitted by AOK Digital & Security Solutions and is accessible through a Smart phone app. Further smart control is provided by Alexa and Sonoff. All this tech provides the perfect no-compromise package for a modern day liveaboard.

Tickin’ Along is a boat on which Swan is truly proud to display its logo.
